Colossians 3:2 NLT Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.
Jesus told us we would have trouble in this life (John 16:33). He also said he has overcome this world so that we may have peace. As we think about the things of heaven, we have access to that peace.
For God is gracious and good to uphold us with his mighty right arm. Psalm 89:13 “Powerful is your arm! Strong is your hand! Your right hand is lifted high in glorious strength.” Being uplifted by our God we can focus on what is true, beautiful, just, and right.
Sometimes we feel weak and desperately need the hand of God to lift us up out of our pain and sorrow.
Life can be too much to take alone at times. We need other believers to be strong with and for us, but most of all, we need God.
If you focus on the things of earth you can be filled with anxiety, worry, stress, anger, depression, and confusion. That is why we are admonished to focus on the things of heaven. And what are they: whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy- think about such things (Philippians 4:8). These are the precious things of life.
Make a list of the elements of life that fit in each category and dwell on them. Uplift God the creator and enjoy your time with Him. Ask him for help and wisdom and peace and understanding. Then go out and help someone else. Your faith in humanity will be renewed giving you hope to return to the things above as your focus rather than any current troubles.
