“Hope lies in dreams, in imagination, and in the courage of those who dare to make dreams into reality.”– Jonas Salk
The start of a new year brings with it hope!
Hope about what is in front of us. Hope about our goals and how many we will accomplish this year!
Things look bright and cheery. There is possibility in the air!
I did a year-end review in December. I was fortunate enough to go on a 4-day silent retreat (more about that at a later time). I saw, in this review, how I lost a lot of time: days and weeks without putting any effort into my goals and dreams.
Yes, I have anxiety, (untreated) ADHD, and depression. I also was breaking an addiction. BUT those are just situations and circumstances that I have to conquer and learn to maneuver within.
This is not another typical “Crush It”, or “Grind it Out” message.
I have the same choice that we all face: get up and move forward or crap out. It is that simple.
But notice I said, “move forward”. I did not say “Hit it”, or “Nail it.” That would be nice… but sometimes just taking a step or two forward is a LOT for someone with difficult circumstances.
Only we, ourselves, know when we are putting in effort to the best of our ability on any given day. And sure, it is nice to take a day off once in a while. But I lost not just days but also weeks at a time with no movement forward.
So this year – I hope to do better.
Here is my hope for the year ahead:
- I hope I choose to do my best on a daily basis 5 days a week.
- I hope I will listen more to God about who I am than to my inner critic.
- I hope I develop closer relationships with at least 3 women and build a real tribe I can be close to.
- I hope to follow my plans for all my blogs.
- I hope to be more patient, understanding, and loving toward my son.
….and I think that is good for now.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13).
What are your hopes for the year ahead? Not your goals. Not action steps.
What are the overall hopes you have for the year? Come up with one for each area of your life. Be general. Be gentle. Be peaceful.
I would love to hear your hopes for this year. Please post a few in the comments or go to my contact page and email me directly!
Until Next Time~
