2 Corinthians 4:8-9 ICB We have troubles all around us, but we are not defeated. We do not know what to do, but we do not give up. We are persecuted, but God does not leave us. We are hurt sometimes, but we are not destroyed.
These are positive statements to get behind.
You could say they are affirmations written to encourage the church at Corinth. Now today in the United States the church, by and large, is not persecuted. Our brothers and sisters face death in other countries, should it be discovered that they are Christians. It is their faith in God, that God is right there with them, that allows them to continue on in daily life as a Christian without renouncing their faith.
We are very fortunate that we do not face those trials.
But we can and do relate to the other statements. We all have troubles. We all have times when we don’t even know where to begin in prayer. And, yes, all of us have known hurt as well. Yet, we are not defeated: we live to see another day. And because we continue on we do not give up.
And finally, as children of the Most High God, we are not destroyed. To remain alive we are given every new opportunity to share our faith, bring glory to God, and see others redeemed. To die- well our soul will go on to be with Jesus- But while we are here we embrace that knowledge while we take action. Life is filled with goodness but it also contains hurts and troubles. It can leave us at a loss for words. That is when the Holy Spirit prays on our behalf. We are never left alone by God.
Let us take comfort in this.
Until Next Time~
