Cleaning up your heart– WHY?

You know the song. You sang it at camp vespers. Maybe you sang it in church. It comes from

Psalm 51:10-12 King James Version

¹⁰ Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

¹¹ Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

¹² Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

We need a pure heart to see God.

Charles Stanley once wrote:
Jesus said, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God,” (Matt. 5:8). God’s Word teaches us that those with a pure, clean heart shall see God—not necessarily in visions or great spiritual exploits, but as He works in and through our own lives.

I used to think that “for they shall see God” was just talking about when they get to heaven. That it was an instruction to all of us to have a clean heart. And, I do think it is prescriptive. Reading the above quote it struck me, though, that one take on it is that we will see God manifested in our lives if we have a clean heart.

Who doesn’t want that? As a Christian, I think we can all agree, that it is truly a matter of awe when God chooses to work in and through us. It is a huge honor.

And I love that he wrote that it does not necessarily mean we will have visions or great spiritual exploits.

I personally think that in the last few decades we, as a people, have gotten more and more into a quest to be special and be used in GREAT ways or unique ways. Some of us just want the experience whether or not anyone else ever hears about it. Some of us want it to be seen on a large scale– whether that is in one church or on the public stage.

Sometimes we only look for what is flashy.

But Charles debunks that this is what it means to see God work in our lives.

How great is our God!
What an honor and a privilege to be used by Him and to see His handy-work in our lives!

Have you ever met a praying grandmother? The kind that has bruises on her knees because daily she prays for her children and grandchildren. She goes to her prayer closet, the war room and has it out with the enemy. She declares God’s sovereignty over the life of her family- including both those that believe and those that have fallen away. She prays that her sins are forgiven and that she will be upheld when she faces temptation to stray off the path. She wants a pure heart and a pure life because she wants her prayers to be heard and answered by God. She wants to see God manifested in her life. She wants to see God.

Be honest with yourself…
