Do you ever have doubts of Faith?

Jude 22 New Living Translation (NLT) 22 And you must show mercy to those whose faith is wavering.

What is your reason for not sharing your doubts with other believers? Where did we get the idea that doubts would never be a part of faith?  Perhaps it is from:
James 1:6 New International Version (NIV) But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

But another version of this same verse says:

James 1:6 New Living Translation (NLT) But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.

This version talks not about doubting but of divided loyalty. I believe I can be loyal to God and still have doubts thrust upon me or even just well up from inside. I am pretty sure Thomas wasn’t the only one who had doubts about Jesus return.  For it says in

Matthew 28:17-19 New Living Translation (NLT) 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him—but some of them doubted!

I believe when the disciples saw Jesus on the cross, they had doubts about many of the things they had been told. They had not been privilege to full understanding yet. These were people who KNEW Jesus personally. If they had doubts, and Jesus understood that, then he understands when we do as well.

There are some people who study Apologetics and can help point things out Biblically as to why we can be assured in our faith. There are people who have devoted their lives to personal study of the Word that can do the same thing. Yet, many of us have had moments or periods of doubts.

I encourage you to seek out some trusted or trust worthy Christian friends that you can be honest with.  The Bible says:

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 New Living Translation (NLT) Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. 10 If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.

We are called many times to support each other. It is one of our callings: to strengthen each other in our faith:

1 Thessalonians 5:11 New Living Translation (NLT) 11 So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.

Build a supportive team in person or online that you can turn to when faith waivers.

And when your faith is strong, be prepared to help others and listen to their doubts, comfort and strengthen them.

Do not let them fall alone and be in trouble.

Risk everything and walk with them. God will sustain you.

Ask him to be with you as you reach out to the other. Ask that your faith not be shaken in the process. God is good and gracious. His desire is that none should perish:

2 Peter 3:9 International Children’s Bible (ICB) The Lord is not slow in doing what he promised—the way some people understand slowness. But God is being patient with you. He does not want anyone to be lost. He wants everyone to change his heart and life.

Jude 22 New Living Translation (NLT) 22 And you must show mercy to those whose faith is wavering.

Until Next Time~
Blessings, Kate
