Keep this for when you want to quit

When life does not go our way, when we struggle to keep going, we are called to not quit. Sometimes this is easier said than done. We are responsible to stir ourselves up to keep going. As Christians, scripture is our best resource.

We make mistakes. God does not. We falter. God does not. We fail and quit, but God says do it again.

Be persistent. Take initiative. Hang on. Look at what is right and going well in your life before losing hope. Sometimes it is imperative that we take moments to focus on other things going well. Give our troubles and struggles a break. Take a break and let God fill you with peace.

Then grab your Bible and meditate on the word. Here are some verses for when you want to give up or feel like you cannot take much more:

Galatians 6:9 New Living Translation (NLT)
So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.

Joshua 1:9 New Living Translation (NLT)
This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Philippians 1:6 New Living Translation (NLT)
And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

Isaiah 41:10 New Living Translation (NLT)
10 Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

Psalm 71:14 New Living Translation (NLT)
14 But I will keep on hoping for your help;
I will praise you more and more.

Romans 5:5 New Living Translation (NLT)
And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

James 1:12 New Living Translation (NLT)
12 God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

Psalm 86:12 New Living Translation (NLT)
12 With all my heart I will praise you, O Lord my God.
I will give glory to your name forever,

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 New Living Translation (NLT)
16 That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. 17 For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! 18 So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

Jeremiah 29:11 New Living Translation (NLT)
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

2 Chronicles 15:7 New Living Translation (NLT)
But as for you, be strong and courageous, for your work will be rewarded.”

Matthew 19:26 New Living Translation (NLT)
26 Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.”

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 New Living Translation (NLT)
16 Always be joyful. 17 Never stop praying. 18 Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

2 Timothy 1:7 New Living Translation (NLT)
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

Philippians 4:19 New Living Translation (NLT)
19 And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.

Luke 1:37 English Standard Version (ESV)
37 For nothing will be impossible with God

Isaiah 40:31 English Standard Version (ESV)
31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.

Its quite a long list– but when we are ready to quit we need options and lots of encouragement. Highlight these in your Bible. Pick a couple to memorize now while things are going good so that they can be recalled later.

Until Next Time~

  1. Thank you these…they blessed my morning (home sick in bed with a wandering mind). It is comforting that there are many verses on encouragement in Scripture. He wants us to have a lot to hold on to when we need it.

    1. I’m sorry to hear you are sick in bed. But I am grateful God used these to encourage you. God is so good that he gets to us through all mediums. He is relentless in chasing us down to let us know of His love. Prayers for a quick recovery.
