Stay focused on your own blessings

We get off track when we look at others

One of the most helpful things we can do is focus on what the Lord is doing in our own life. What are the blessings God is working out in your life right now?

Maybe it’s hard to see any right now. You could have just lost your job, just had a blow out fight with your adult child, sat struggling to not pick up the bottle again. Yes, life can be difficult. Start your gratitude list with the fact that you survived to live another day and make the best of it.

With the gift of another day, you have the opportunity to make/ influence changes in your life. Never give up and just let life happen to you.

Comparison can lead to negative thinking and depression, self pity, helplessness, and hopelessness.

We are to do our part and cast our cares back onto God.

There are things and situations we are not meant to handle on our own. God is waiting to show his strength in our situation as soon as we admit our weakness. When we do, when we hand over our cares, he is faithful to take over to the extent we let him reign in our life.

Longing for something, or worse- being jealous/ in self-pity/ or complaining- does us no good. Turn all your dreams, hopes, requests over to the Almighty.

Philippians 4:6-7 says Do not be anxious about anything but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God,which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your mind in Christ Jesus.

These words were written by Paul the Apostle who was  ship wrecked, beaten, jailed. He learned to be content in all of what life handed him. He just stayed focused on his call to the gospel of Christ.

In order to be content we must be grateful. Being grateful reminds us of our many blessings. It focuses us on the good, the holy, the pure.

Philippians 4:8 reads- Whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

The word of God tells us to stay focused on the positive. We do this by letting comparison go. We do this by not coveting what we see on tv and social media.

Thanksgiving opens the heart of God towards us. He adores you and has the best plans for your life. Today express gratitude all day long. Even if you are struggling…find one person or situation to be grateful for. Dwell on the object of your gratitude. Feel the smile cross your face. Nurse that feeling.

Keep your thoughts and mind on your own life and what is going well for you. When you focus on the positive, more positive will come into your life.

Until Next Time-

Blessings, Kate

  1. I would say “stay focused on the Giver of blessings”. If we’re focused on the blessings rather than the Giver, we’re like the kid who obsessively plays the games console his dad gave him whilst ignoring his dad! I know you weren’t advocating that kind of thing but I hope you see where I’m coming from 🙂
