Buying gifts with cash is one way to do it. But there is another way…
What gifts are you giving this year? Perhaps there is another you could give…
I read this on YouVersion this morning:
Matthew 2 tells about the birth of Jesus. The wise men heard that Jesus was born, and they went out to look for Him. Matthew 2:10 says, “They were overjoyed” when they found Jesus, and they presented Him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
That got me thinking about what I would offer Jesus this year. I don’t normally offer anything at Christmas time to our Lord. I am thankful and worshipful. But I never put myself in the position of the wise men.
They knew someone special, a king, was being born and they wanted to pay honor to him. I know a king was born who came to reconcile me to God Almighty. What have I given him to celebrate his coming to us?
year week starting today, I am going to come up with something to give to Jesus. Maybe it is a good intention to follow through on– like encouraging 3 people a day to spread His love. Maybe it is more time volunteering. Maybe it is a dedication of time to study and prayer (which I slack on periodically – because truth be told it is not a ritual attached to a specific time of day for me. So sometimes it is hit or miss). Maybe I will give up an old habit that isn’t good for me.
There are many things I could offer up to Jesus as a gift to Him. Giving these non-tangible gifts will make me more useable for the kingdom of God.
What will you give up this year as a gift to God? If you have any suggestions or thoughts about what you will give– please share them. I’d love to hear from you and see what else are options.
Until Next Time~
