Going For the Prize of A Good Life

race 1

Are you seeking the good life— good feelings  through the rat race or God’s race?

There is a well read portion of Paul’s letters in the Bible about running the race to finish well. You can find it here in the NLT version Philippians 3:12-19.

Today I want to share with you the version from The Message Bible. Read and meditate on it.

Philippians 3:12-19 The Message (MSG)

Focused on the Goal

12-14 I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.

15-16 So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision—you’ll see it yet! Now that we’re on the right track, let’s stay on it.

17-19 Stick with me, friends. Keep track of those you see running this same course, headed for this same goal. There are many out there taking other paths, choosing other goals, and trying to get you to go along with them. I’ve warned you of them many times; sadly, I’m having to do it again. All they want is easy street. They hate Christ’s Cross. But easy street is a dead-end street. Those who live there make their bellies their gods; belches are their praise; all they can think of is their appetites.

19 is a little awkward there so I will remind you that verse 19 in the NLT says: “19 They are headed for destruction. Their god is their appetite, they brag about shameful things, and they think only about this life here on earth.

I am new to this version but relate to it so much.

I don’t have this Christian walk perfected.
I am no expert.
I am like many of you who are believers– we just want all that God has for us— which is HIM.

The more intimate our walk with GOD, the more of HIM we have in our lives,…the more we have:
peace
joy
love for others
contentment
gratitude
…..and aren’t these what the rest of the world is chasing through prosperity and abundance in each area of their lives?

Chasing segmented goals that we think will fulfill usdoes not fulfill anyone.
Otherwise the rich and famous and beautiful and celebrated people of the world would not be actively addicted nor fighting suicidal thoughts and actions. Pretty pictures on FB and Istagram do not make the real person a happy person filled with the above qualities.

Instead of chasing goals that the world says will finally make us feel like we have it all……………………….lets chase God / Jesus; where we are guaranteed the qualities listed regardless of our outer circumstances.

Let yourself remember the game of chase.

You chase someone and tag them…they chase you and tag you back. If the person you are chasing is bigger than yourself– when they come for you they will catch you guaranteed. And if it is a parent they most likely will scoop you up and hug and hold you twirling you around in joy.

Run the race. Aim for the finish line. God is the goal. We receive all we need when we have him.

Play chase –– run after GOD then let him catch you, scoop you up, hug and hold you twirling you around in joy.

Until Next Time~
Blessings, Kate

  1. Love this post! As we grow closer to God, I’ve noticed we truly become more of who we are. We start to let go of the things that don’t belong and start to shine brighter. I enjoy the message for the raw talk type of lessons. While it’s a very loose translation, it helps you get to the meat of the message, especially when researching various scripture.
